The meds could very well have caused his troubles. If it were my son, I'd run (not walk) to the nearest naturopath. If you don't know one, you can find one at www.trinityschool.org. They list their graduates by state on their web site. You could also try homeopathy. It's very safe and effective. Soul Doctor on Answers provides accurate and complete information and I'm sure will also do follow-up. If you'd rather see a homeopath in person, you can go to www.homeopathy.org to find one near you.
Also, please read up on indigo, crystal, and star children. If nothing else, there's usually excellent recommendation for diet in those books.
p.s. Don't listen to the bashers. I'm sure you're trying to do what's best for your child, otherwise you wouldn't have asked your question.

I would stop the medication and go back to the doctor too. When given a new medication, my grandpa usually takes only half the dose the doctor prescribes. Old people and kids are extra sensitive to medicine. You can't cut all pills in half. Some are time released and must be swallowed whole. But I even do that, when I'm unsure about a new med, I take half and work my way up to full dose.

I would call the doctor, but keep in mind that some medications have side effects that wear off after taking the medication for a few days. Also, don't listen to idiots who don't know the situation.
Sometimes a hyperactive child just needs an outlet for his energy. A vigorous exercise plan may help your son.
If your pediatrician is the one who prescribed the medication, you might want to get a second oppinion from a psychiatrist. I wouldn't want to be giving my child medication if therapy could be just as helpful.

stratterra is (out of all the add drugs) by far the best if you have to go that route. what time did he take his medication and what time did he go to sleep the night before?
i also am curious...have you had him tested for IBS? seems many kids these days are given add drugs when it's an issue in the intestine.
those who think their kids might have add or adhd don't know about a lacking of a certain enzyme in the gut that helps regulate the serretonin in the brain.
have him tested for ibs (three types: constipation, diarreha or combination)
if it shows he may have IBS, diet will usually work for his add/adhd.
good luck!

Yah, get him off the meds. Cut out all the sugar, coloring, dairy and wheat to start. Then bring back the dairy and wheat in turn when he starts getting calm if he reacts badly to either, he is probably allergic. Or you could go to a natural path and get them to do an allergy test. Set your rules at home and don't back down. He can whine and cry but you can't back down. Kids will keep pushing until they find you boundaries, if you let him act out, he will act out. When he gets to know limits at home, he will start following them at school. If you are a single parent, get him on a team or something where he can get a male influence. I know it sounds bad coming from a woman, but boys need boys. There is also a substitute in the health food stores called learning factors.

Has your child been truly diagnosed as hyperactive? I have a hard time believing that most children even really have this problem. All the kids in my family were "spirited children". As they grew up they got more and more mellow. I hope you get more than one opinion on your diagnosis and medication. I think that so many kids are on medication for this right now that don't truly need to be.

He's only 7 I think Dr.s prescribe meds like that because they are lazy and are afraid to tell parents they need to parent. No one is perfect but sometimes we need to slow down and take control of our lives and children and not let the meds do it

I am not a big beliver in meds like that , so my advise would be find another dr. see if you have a holistic one near you for any thing else they do make herb combinations safe for kids that help calm them down. Thats just careless and unreaserched on the drs part .

I hope he is better now, wow. The next thing i would do is call his doctor and/or talk to someone in the emergency room. search the site i found below. I would DEFINITELY wait to talk to a doctor before I gave him any more of the medication.
Best of luck....take care.
