It is possible. The windows has internet connection sharing(ICS) using which the other PCs through switch can be connected in a private network with the IP No. starting with 192.168.0.0 ( to host which is having the two lan cards) and the 192.168.0.1 to N for the other PCs.

You should be able to connect the modem to the router.
Modem usually have two connections, one via USB and the other via CAT5 Ethernet cables.
If you are hooked up via USB, disconnect that and hook the router (WAN or LAN connector) to the modem. If the router also has a 4 way Ethernet hub, you can hook your computers to 2 of those.
The router (based on DHCP?) will assign IP addresses for each computer.
If the router doesn't have the Ethernet hub, then you need to get a separate Ethernet hub
Hope that clears it up?

this makes no sense, if you connect the the cable modem to a network card, then you can connect it to a router, and the router to the original pc and any others. to do it the way youare suggestion would require internet connection sharing with the other pc
