They'll eat algae or freshwater aquatic plants such as anarchis or elodea. Unless they are very large goldfish or koi and the snails are tiny enough for them to eat, they should be fine.
In a new tank the algae won't be there unless you expose it to some sunlight. Just don't expose it directly or it might get too hot. Algae growth happens naturally anyway.

One of my snails disappeared out of it s shell and I think the other snail ate it! So, I cleaned my fish tank and put my four gold fish and two small snails in a fish bowl. When I went to put them into the clean tank, I discovered an empty shell! It looks like the most active yellow snail ate the least active blue snail because the yellow snail is bigger and their is something dark in it s belly. For a moment, I thought they were sharing a shell. It may have died and got eaten because I keep the water at room temperature. I really don t know what happened. One thing for sure is, I am missing a snail. :(

Snails are one of the easiest creatures to keep alive. Just don't put too much aquarium salt in the tank with them. They eat just about anything and especially like all of your favorite ornamental plants so to keep them happy just feed any kind of fish food and they also eat ditreous and when algae forms, will eat it too. Japanese trapdoor snails or ramshorns do best with goldfish. All the others require higher water temps.

in an aquarium setting. Since this snail mainly eats algae, P. bridgesi is a good choice for a planted aquarium. In general, it will only eat plants if other food is not available. This snail will eat algae, vegetables, flake food, frozen foods, and live foods.

Freshwater snails eat algae, and dead and decaying plants in the water. Their tongue has layers of teeth, which scrape food particles into the mouth.
