Unlike CNN, which is a privately owned corporation, the BBC is a publicly owned utility, and as such is government regulated. The law in the UK is that the news on public television *must* be fair and impartial. This was demonstrated beautifully in the recent Lebanon conflict, where there was equal reporting from Lebanon and the experience and point of view of the Lebanese by the BBC as there was from Israel. In contrast, there was virtually zero reporting from Lebanon by ANY of the US news organizations. As all the US news orgs are private corporations, they have no incentive to be anything other than biased in their reporting, slavishly following the editorial direction imposed by their owners.

US news has become little more than infotainment, with more focus on the "tainment" than the "info". Why? Because they are commercial enterprises that sell advertising. They have to both win as big an audience share as possible to enable them to attract advertisers, and they have to provide content that doesn't displease those advertisers. In essence, the news co's are at the end of the leash of their advertisers, in consequence of which they simply *cannot* be fair and impartial. The BBC doesn't have advertisers, and as such doesn't suffer from this problem. Also, to attract as many viewers as possible, the US news is dumbed down significantly, and doled out in flashy sound-bites, which prevent any real exploration of issues. Finally, we all know that the overwhelming majority of large corporations have their futures better served by the Republican party than by Democrats...so in which direction do you think they are going to bias their news reporting? This fact alone puts the lie to the myth of 'liberal media'.

If you want to know what is *really* going on in the world, watch pretty much any other news than US news (eg EuroNews, Canadian News, the BBC or any others. Even Al Jazeera presents a more balanced news output than comes out of the US).

For those of you in the US who say I'm full of crap, how much *actual* foreign coverage have you looked at, and compared foreign reporting of events with US reporting of the same incidents?

I love CNN. I watch it a lot and check the CNN website a few times a day. I think they report better than BBC.

I like BBC. I find it ironic that I can go the BBC online and find more information on what is happening in the USA than I find out on CNN or other news channels here.

I like BBC because they actually report news instead of just sticking a bunch of people on there to argue. Although I'm a big fan of The Situation Room for some bizarre reason.

Both channels don’t give true story ( news point of view) and both are partially
Patronage of their government specially in war point of view they use their own
Invented terminology like when 9/11 happened CNN continuously used term AMERICA
UNDER ATTACK actually they exploit the emotions of people and when Israel attack Lebanon and did mess they used Middle east Crises don’t they used that Labonan under Israeli offensive now they have slogan that not every Muslim terrorist but every terrorist is Muslim or ( Fascist Muslim ) they follow the rule of jungle who have power who will rule this is not fair.

I prefer BBC. I'm British and no self-respecting Brit would prefer American news.

BBC also has a superb website.

BBC is way better. They don't scream and rant like Hannity and O'Riely, nor are they obsessed with missing blonde girls like all the networks seem to be here.
