The best thing to do is combine more than 1 form of contraception. Take the contaceptive pill but still use a condom. Double safety net.

Abstinence (or celibacy) is the most effective method.

Surgical methods have the next highest effectiveness rate - tubal ligation (female "tubes tied") has a lower pregnancy rate than vasectomy.

Hormonal contraception and barrier methods are next

Spermicide is pretty useless unless combined with a barrier method.

As are rhythm method and withdrawal

There is no 100% effective contraceptives. Condom is the best to prevent pregnancy and STDs when used properly.

i have found the depo-provera shot very affective...i have been on it for about a year and haven't gotten pregnant (we don't use condoms)
