That is so cute. Yes that was back in the day. Your grandmothers era. Times have changed though. I see nothing wrong with asking a "boy" to go on a date. Going to grab a movie or something to eat. I think its wonderful you girls are so confident!
You are also very smart to be going with your friends! Another A+ for you girls!
Thats how i met my husband. I actually approached him. He was too chicken to approach me LOL
Good luck girls. Be smart, and confident. And always keep your parents informed (yes i know you hate hearing it but they really are on your side)
Good luck and HAVE FUN!

Becky, are you serious? Of course that was the way it was. It is only fairly recent that girls started to ask boys out (other than prom pretty much that is). Back in the day not long ago, if a girl asked out a guy she was considered a chippy, unlady-like, "loose," skankish, sluttish. This is no longer true, much to everyone's relief. Maybe that is why guys today basically seem pretty indecisive in the dating game.
PS: also, girls never called boys on the phone for the very same reason.

Yes your grandma is correct, it is so much nicer as men/boys enjoy the chase, that's a part of nature. If you wait for boys to ask you out you will appear to be far more special and will also gain far more respect. No boys/men like girls that seem easy and too keen as it sends out the wrong message.

Those were the old days. Tell your grandma (in a nice way, of course) to "get with the program." You girls are doing an intrepid thing and that's great. Gosh, if you waited for those boys to ask you out, you might be waiting until hell freezes over!

Yes it's true that in the old days the boy asked the girl out.
But I don't see anything wrong with a girl asking a boy out. If he goes out with you, then he must be interested. We are now in a period where the equality of the sexes is being stressed.

It's still like that as far as I'm concerned . A nice girl doesn't ask a boy out ; I don;t care what year this is . She'd be considered "hard up" if she can't get a guy to ask HER out . Group dates are fine for your age-but any serious dating should be reserved until you are older . Your grandma knows what she's talking about . A boy who waits for a girl to ask him out , will wait for you to open doors for him and pay for the date .I wouldn't want a guy like that ; would you ?

Has that changed? Girls always sit around and wait for the boys to make the first move. For all the boys around the country, thank God girls finally had some nerve!

Absolutely true. Alot of times, they had to ask the girl's dad for permission to date her. Also, YOU WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DATE AT 13 even in a group!
