How about the Oakland Raiders? They might actually win more than four games this year, and their fans are complete loonies!

If you moved to NY, then you should go for one of the teams in the region. i.e. Eagles, Steelers, Bills, jets, or giants. However, these teams depend on the kind of person you are:
The Bills- aren't a fun team to root for. They play a slow game by running the football and playing a good defense. I wouldn't be a direhard Bills fan.
The Jets- have their moments. However, this is the last team I will tell you to like. Why? They are currently in the rebuilding stage. Meaning, they won't be good for another 2 or 3 years. If your'e the kind of person who likes to watch the bad in order to feel accomplished when the successful seasons start coming, then the Jets are for you. Otherwise, steer clear.
The Giants- Are an interesting team. I am a direhard Eagles fan, therefore, I really don't like the giants. But trying to come from an unbiased point of view, if you like to watch high-scoring games, then you would like the giants. They have a lot of firepower but not as much heart as the final two teams.
Both the Eagles and the Steelers are loaded with heart. While the steelers play old-classic football with a strong defense, a relentless running game, and a consistent pass offense, they won the superbowl as the pure underdogs. I must admit, if i didn't love the eagles, i would be a steelers fan. Everyone counts them out of the big games, but they always seem to come through in the clutch.
Whereas the Eagles aren't going to get you the championship, if that's what you want, but they will go to the playoffs almost every year. Even if they don't (soley because of the hardest division) the seasons are always exciting to watch. If the Eagles sign Duce Staley this offseason, their old heart and soul will return to the offense. The guy shattered the arch in his foot during a play and still ran for a touchdown. If that's not heart, i don't know what is. The Eagles have a QB who everyone in the NFL respects and many admire. Defensively, Brian Dawkins (philly) and Troy Polamalu (pittsburgh) are the soul of the team. Both are aggressive, hard hitting, but kind-hearted safeties.

You have to go with the New York Giants. There are several reasons.
1) The most obvious are the hometown and family connections. Think how fun it'll be to share the ups and downs with your loved ones - plus as a NYer, you know how fun it is to win in that town.
2) The Giants are like the Mets. Long-established teams but they are not spoiled by winning year in and year out. Every season for the Mets and Giants is fraught with question marks, disappointments and high hopes.
3) The Mets have only won the World Series twice - The Giants have only won the Super Bowl twice.
4) The '69 Mets shocked the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles - the '86 Giants shocked the heavily favored Broncos.
5) The '86 Mets beat the Red Sox in the most dramatic World Series ever - the '90 Giants beat the Bills in the best Super Bowl ever.
6) Don't pick the Jets because they NEVER ever win and they are usually horrible. (Jets fans have to suffer by seeing their team play in GIANTS Stadium).
7) Don't pick the Broncos because they usually underachieve after being praised with high expectations.
8) Don't pick the Steelers because they just won the Super Bowl and you'll be accused of jumping on their bandwagon.
Happy NFL team-hunting!!

It's hard to just pick a team. Most people like to have either a personal or geographical connection to the team.
With that said, you should also like their logo and name.
NY fans are hard core. You'll always find places to watch a Jets or Giants game. If you have a connection to NY, maybe go that way. Especially if your family is into one of the NY teams...
I'm from Denver, and their fans are rabid. The team is very good with a bright future. They do beat on the Chargers twice a year...
Good luck!

With your NY ties and allegiances, the Giants are an obvious choice. They're a playoff contender; they have exciting players (Manning, Barber, Shockey); they're usually on national television; they have a real history (i.e., not expansion). Plus, they don't compete with anyone in your physical location. To choose the Broncos, you're just asking for trouble in SD/OAK country.
Steelers would be a total band wagon pick. So would Indy. If you want to root for pacific time zone team, go with the Cardinals.
But the Giants are still my pick.

Steelers!!! No team has one more games since 1992. Great tradition...5 Super Bowl wins, classy franchise (not much off the field issues.) Plus they are defending champs in a tough conference! Go to ebay and get you a terrible towel today!!!

you have to learn to love the chargers, it's your home team.
embrace them, learn about them, follow them, eventually
they will catch hold. Well that's assuming you are in
san diego. If you are in L.A, then phuck the chargers.
You are without a team. You might pick the St. Louis
Rams, since they were previously the LA team.
But that really makes no sense. I would go with the
team that your family roots for most. That way you
will have more in common.

I'm a die hard broncos fan so that's who i'd suggest....but you should watch a few games and see which teams you like and which ones you don't like. Sometimes you get influenced into going for your hometown team just because their "in your town" but that doesn't have to be the case.

How about the new Texans? They desperately need some royal fans. If you want to stick with californian ones, you still have 49ers & raiders (both in sad shape though).
