Good answer loubean. Well said. The founding fathers may or may not have been manipulative and deceptive but what they manage to do is put together a document that endeavors to create a more perfect union. This does not mean that our government is perfect, but we endeavor to be.
I don't think the founding fathers foresaw the advent of lobbyist, however. Between 1996 and 2006 lobbyist spent 13 billion dollars in campaign gifts to democrats and republicans. The system of government set up by the founding fathers is suppose to be of the people, by the people and for the people. This original idea has been perverted. Now you must be rich to be a politician and you don't listen to your constituency you follow lobbyist campaign money. And once you retire, you become a lobbyist and seduce current politicians.
In these discussions we shouldn't get hung up on political parties. We should transcend parties and see the big picture. We should endeavor to create a more perfect dialog or exchange of information.

I don't think so. I think that we should be thankful for them...they were amazingly insightful considering how long ago they lived....imagine something you say today being not only relevant but revered two hundred or so years from now. I think that they were so disillusioned with power mad people that they gave their best efforts to not be so themselves....but times change. I don't think every politician today is manipulative and deceptive....and I also don't think those traits are limited to politicians.

I'm pretty sure that human nature being what it is, they had personal agendas as well as their publicly stated ones, but I don't think that they were any where near the level of today's "leaders" when it comes to manipulation, deceit, "spin", "pork", being "lobbied" (basically bribed),etc. I am a "liberal" thinker, and though I admire the intelligence of some of our politicians, I don't trust ANY of them. I trust SOME Dems a little more then MOST Reps, but I don't think any of them have the integrity of our Founding Fathers!

It wouldn't surprise me. But they left the way open to stop that cycle from repeating. They made it possible for the people to live free and with the power.
It's too bad the masses are more ignorant and scared than they are responsible for their country.

No. I think their intentions were far better than most people today. They risked everything they had for us. Thye didn't care what the immediate outcome was as much as they cared about the long term freedom of people in America.
Its too bad peopel can't respect that.

They didn't have to be, people back then were overall a lot nicer and less deceptive. Even battles and war had rules and honor.

to tell you the truth, I don't trust any politicians on either side. I sure don't trust lawyers, especially the ones in the ACLU.

Absolutely. These dudes got a war so they could stop paying taxes to the Crown.
If they saw the taxes we pay today, they'd rethink ever leaving the Commonwealth.
