what works best for me is using clean and clear daily pore cleanser. i only use it once a day (when i shower), twice tops if i need to take makeup off before bed. i follow with olay complete beauty lotion. i buy the equate version though because it's cheaper, yet still works just as well. every couple of days i sometimes use a mixture of equal parts baby shampoo and baking soda with a little salt mixed in. it's pretty strong, so don't use it too often.
i tried proactiv and it didn't work for me. you may be using too many products and that in turn causing pimples from irritation. that's what happened to me. it cleared up big time once i layed off the harsh products. this is because my skin because a little sensitive to all the products i used in a desparate attempt for perfect skin. it didn't work.
remember to not touch your face and drink water to flush out your system and replenish your skin cells. try keeping your fingernails short to reduce bacteria.
these products can be found at wal-mart.
clean and clear daily pore cleanser ($3)
equate moisturizer ($2)
good luck.

There can be many, many reasons. I lived where it was hot and humid a lot and that had my face breaking out when I was in my 40's! Not as much as when I was a teen, but I sure thought I'd be over it way before my 40's. Then I moved where it's not so hot and the cold season is most of the year and I don't have that problem. I think if you do live in that sort of climate you might try cleansing your face more often during the day if you can.
My daughter is now 12 years old and she is fighting acne. We were visiting down in Texas (where I used to break out all the time) and she was breaking out like crazy. At first I thought it was the heat and humidity, but I soon found out that an older lady I was letting her visit with every day was baking her cookies every day. She was eating a ton of sugar and chocolate. When I got her away from that she cleared up a lot. Now I have to watch her. If she gets too many sweets she breaks out. You may need to change your diet. Try leaving out sugar sweetened sweets and see if that works. You don't have to give up sweets, just switch to diet drinks and sugar free hard candies. The soft sugar free candies are loaded with fat, so they aren't so good.
Also, if you don't already, try washing your pillowcase once a week. Oil from your face or hair can get on your pillowcase at night and you can be exposing your skin to it every night during your sleep.
If you are stressed that can affect you too.
I'm not saying all these things are causing this problem for you, but am just trying to give you some ideas so maybe you can narrow it down and help yourself clear up some. Good luck!

There are products LIKE proactive that are sold at the pharmacy. If you get one, follow the directions for at least an entire Month before stopping (unless it irritates you, or you are allergic). although there IS a promotion for Proactive (only about $20) going on right now... and that's about what you'll pay for the store brands....

try egg yolk....it really works!! separate an egg, discard the white, stir the yolk to mix, and spread on your face. let sit 10 minutes and rinse. one yolk is enough for about 3 treatments. do this everyday for 30 days and you'll be very surprised at the results. after the 30 days, do it once every 2 weeks. if it flares up, repeat everyday for 2 weeks.

soap has wax in it tht will clog your pores, use an antibacterial pump face wash.
acne can be treated by your doc if it is too serious,
most over the counter items are a disappointment.
