With my first daughter, I went two weeks over my due date and they induced my labor. There were no side effects. They broke my water and gave me epitonin ( I think that's what it's called). 13 hours later I was holding my beautiful baby girl. I was still able to get my epidural. It seems scary because you know when it's going to happen, but it's not that bad. Good luck, and congratulations. God Bless.

I was induced and it went well. First, they put an IV into my vein, and this kept me hydrated. From the moment you get there, you won't be allowed to eat anything- so make sure you eat!! Next, a bunch of people will come in for you to sign papers and what not. Then, the doctor will probally do an internal, and then stick a pill up your vagina to help you dilate. Next, they will usually start the pitocin- drug to bring on contractions. If you're getting an epidural, try to hold off until at least 5 centimeters dialated or it may delay the birth, which could cause you to have a C-section instead. When you are fully dialated, you will know when it is time to PUSH. Then you push and soon the baby will come. Relax because if you do not dilate, they will probably do a c-section on you. Congratulations and Good Luck!

I will tell you how my inducing went... but everyone is different so keep that in mind. I arrived at the hospital around 5:30 that morning, it had to be early to get prepped, which usually includes changing into a gown and getting hooked up to your IV and tools that keep a constant measure of your contractions... nothing painful, unless you consider an IV painful. Then, at around 6:30, I recieved an epidural. Epidurals aren't bad at all, not any worse than any other shots you have had throughout the pregnancy. After the epidural set in, around 7:00 am, they put a drug into my IV bag that makes my contractions stronger and more frequent... I didn't feel them because of the epidural. A little while later, the nurse came in a broke my water for me. Once again, I didn't feel a thing. For the next little while, I either slept or relaxed and talked to my husband in between check ups for dialation and changing of bed pads. When it was time for the baby to come, when I was fully dialated, the doctor literally stood in front of me and played catch. I only had to push a few times because when you have an epidural, you can't feel anything and was able to push more where I probobly wouldn't have had I been able to feel it. Sometimes, you can ask for an episiotomy, which can really help with the actual delivery part, by making your vaginal opening larger for more space for the larger parts of your baby to come through. This makes the delivery easier, and prevents nasty scars caused by ripping, but it makes recovery time a little harder. Basically, by the time my epidural wore off, my baby had already been measured and weighed and I was holding her in my arms. I was a very beautiful experience because I was alert the entire time, I was in no pain, and the process was not as long because of the quickening drug and manual water breaking. So hopefully, my experience will help you to understand a little about what goes on in an induction situation. But remember, this is just my experience, yours may be different, or it may be very similar. I wish you the best of luck.

All i can share with you is based on my personal experience--everyone is different. I was induced with 3rd child, and had very intense, long lasting contractions. However, the breathing exercises really helped, mu husbands support really helped, and when the baby was born, all the pain was forgotten. I had no side effects from being chemically induced to deliver; I did have soreness in "that" area, but is was not bad. Good luck!!

its no big deal to be induced they give you potosin to help speed labor and delivery, for most people that get an epidural it will help calm you and slow some of you labor down and hopefully you wont be feeling the worst part of it, i was induced and im a big wuss when it comes to pain. I actually went into the hospital because I thought I was in labor and I was but it wasnt going fast enough so they induced me. You will be great. Good luck

I was induced with my second. I was 10 days overdue. Drink LOTS of water from now on, that way it will be easier to get an IV in. They had to poke me 7 times, and I drank water like there was no tomorrow. You'll go in, get your gown on, they'll place the things that measure the contractions on you belly, they'll check to see if you are dialated, then break your water, then start them IV.

My labor was slow at first, I only dialated 3cm in six hours, then all of a sudden, BAM I dialated the remaining cm in two hours. It was fast and they couldn't get the drugs into me fast enough. I pushed 3 times, and out she came. It was really quick once it started.

I have seen no side effects in either me or my daughter(she's 3 now). Induction was better than a C-section. Good luck to you, and remember--drink water!!!

I was induced with my first son, and God help me that was the longest waiting of my life. Your emotional, you want the damn baby OUT, and that drip seem like it's going at the speed of a turtle(that may even be too quick). And at the end of that looonnnggg 22 hrs. I finally gave birth to a beautiful 9lb.10 ounce 22 3/4 inch long baby. IT WAS EXCRUCIATING!!! I'm sorry honey but that really is how it was. I hope yours isn't so long, maybe everybody is faster than me. Mind you, my 14 yr. old baby is still SLOW at doing what he's told even now. Good Luck

I was induced with baby #2. With baby #1 I had very little drugs, it was about as effective as Tylenol. But #2 the contractions were awful. They seemed to last longer and seemed stronger. So if they ask yes you want the drugs. I waited to long, so I had to deal with the pain. And remember to eat before you go, because once they admit you, no more food. Good luck.

It sucks!! The pains for me was worse they are faster and closer together. You can get pain meds while being induced if you are ask first. But it really depends on the person and the baby. Make a list and ask them eveything when you get there so you know ahead of time plus as long as your water don't break some make you walk and some don't.

I did it and so did my sister. One bit of advice. If you have a choice--dont do it. My labor lasted 19 hours. It was miserable. it would not progress, but since they'd begun they wouldn't quit. I wanted a natural labor, and this was the furthest from. IT WAS MISERABLE. My sister's lasted 12 hours.

My mother always had natural births and i think her longest labor was about 5 hours. We're all pretty sure that the inducement made the labors longer since our bodies weren't totally ready to deliver (even though we were both past our due dates). The baby will come when it's good and ready!!
