I agree with Marie, the Evil Dead movies were creepy. Of course I didn't see them until I was in college, but they still freaked me out.

The Birds. As a kid, that was a freaky movie. Ditto the Wizard of Oz and those flying monkeys.

What I wanted to know is what parent lets a "little" kid watch the Exorcist, Psycho or Child's Play?

Mario Bava's Mask of Satan
Loosely adapted from a story by Nikolai Gogol, this chilling vampire tale begins in 17th-century Moldavia, where the evil Princess Asa (Barbara Steele) is executed for witchcraft and vampirism, along with her brother Javutich (Arturo Dominici). Two centuries later, a pair of traveling doctors discover Asa's crypt and inadvertently revive the evil princess, whose scheme of vampiric revenge is aimed at her own identical descendant Princess Katia, an innocent beauty (also played by Steele) whose lifeblood will ensure Asa's immortality.

This for me is...has been...and will forever be the ultimate horror film. Filmed in black and white...with a mood so thick and rich...it seems to drip right off the screen...it remains for me a terrifying odyssey of revenge beyond the grave. They will never make anything like this again.

The Haunting
Dr. Markway, doing research to prove the existence of ghosts, investigates Hill House, a large, eerie mansion with a lurid history of violent death and insanity. With him are the skeptical young Luke, who stands to inherit the house, the mysterious and clairvoyant Theodora and the insecure Eleanor, whose psychic abilities make her feel somehow attuned to whatever spirits inhabit the old mansion. As time goes by it becomes obvious that they have gotten more than they bargained for as the ghostly presence in the house manifests itself in horrific and deadly ways.
Scared me so bad...I slept poorly for a week after seeing it.
Atmospheric. And soundhere plays a role right along with the superb cast of actors...classic moviemaking.
