I have a Dell Dimension 4400 and it currently has a Nvidia Gforce 2 64mb video card. I bought an ATI Radeon 1300 256mb. The box said that I need a stronger power supply so I got a 400 watt one. I deleted the driver, shut the computer down removed the old card, installed the new card closed up the box plugged everything back in. I hooked everything up and turned the computer on. The screen when black then went into multi-colored vertical lines on the screen. I did everything that the install book told me to do. What is the problem? Thanks for your help.

The motherboard powers the card. I didn't need to add a power cord. The old one didn't have one either.

OK! I feel stupid. The old card didn't have a 4 pin power hookup but this one did. I hooked it up and it's working now. Thanks everyone for your help.

Lots of troubleshooting
Check the back of the video card and see if it takes a 4 pin power from your power supply to the video card itself. Don't know if you've already done that so thats my advice

maby there is a conflict with your motherboard
does it have any power connections on the new card
my card uses a spare power cord from my power box pluged into it to run .
check to see that it is plugged in properly and try downloading different drivers off the net

the first element i'd do is replace your drivers from the AMD website. If that would not help examine the game's talk board to ensure if the game is totally properly matched with ATI playing cards. i lately switched to NVIDIA because of ATI motive force topics.

You might have a problem with the compatibility of the card. i had a friend that tried to install the same card with a amd based system and it would not work. is your system an intel based?
