I have a friend, and it seems like all she cares about is being cool...she says she hates preps..but the preps are considered cool, therefore she wants to be one, but not act like one. if that makes any sence....She always says she'll hang out with us (her friends) unless of course she gets invited to hang out with someone above us, then she would hang out with them...just to be cool. She's called us all "dorks, inmature, ect." when in real life I believe we are much more mature than her. We're just your average teenage girls. Not "popular" not "geeks or nerds" we're just average. How can we explain to her that being popular isn't everything? ((Sorry for all the lables, and the length of this question))

Yeah, seems bit difficult, but talk 2 her abt it. If she doesnt give way, she's not worth it. Your world focus on u,not her. If she behaves like a brat, ignore her. I agree with most of the answers. Enjoy your life.

I know this situation well. I can predict a good possibility for the future, based on my own experiences from those good old high school days.
Later in life all those cool-oriented classmates find that coolness doesn't deliver success and/or happiness in the real world. And the students who were the less popular (less cool), and with a higher maturity level, blossomed and became new age 'cool' in their own right.
I attended one class reunion. Fascinating that so many of the previously regarded wall flowers, geeks, silent types, etc, were in solid marriages, had healthy careers, more overall stability that the what was gleaned from stories by the previous 'cool' ones.
So do all you like to convince them of a better path to take, but never give up your own sure-footedness. It will give you repeated rewards in future life.

I am also starting as a freshmen in high school, but I may have some advice for you. Try to distance yourself from this friend. If she becomes "cool" for a while, and then gets dropped by that "cool" friend then she will come back to you. For her, you are just people she can come to in between friends. This has happened to me and that is what I did and it worked for me. And of course you are much more mature than she is. You know who your friends are and you don't (hopefully) constantly try to be "cool". As I said earlier, this has happened to me and I just learned to stay away from cliques and be yourself with your true friends. Who knows, perhaps one day she may realize that being "cool" is not worth losing your friends?

Honestly, forget your friends and these stupid crappy little highschool popular games. If you don't like your friend, tell her to get lost and find some other friends. The world is a really big place. Go to google maps and click satellite.

Shes obviously not a real friend and once she notices that those popular girls don't care about her she'll want your friendship back.

WHOA !! Stop focusing on this girl, who, at this point in her life, is either really insecure,or shallow, or some combination... Let her go her own way, or you will be caught up in her dysfunction. and remember: you will most often be judged by the company you keep!

She'll soon get tired of pretending to be someone she's not. Being happy is more important than being popular.
