Hey all. To all the people who live in Ireland, do you speak English there as your primary language? Or is it Gaelic? I was wondering because I will be spending a year there and only know a few words of Gaelic.

Thanks!

As an Irishman, I can tell you that English is the most commonly spoken language,. However the official language of Ireland is Gaelic. A very difficult language to learn I might add.

English is spoken in most of Ireland. However the west of Ireland has many Gaelic speakers. I was there for 18 days and I didn't find anyone I couldn't speak English to.

English is primary. Few speak Gaelic. It is old and hard to do. Northern Ireland is pure English. The accent is very difficult.
I won't spell it right but let's try Ceid Mil Falte

It's 'Irish' or 'Gaeilge', not 'Gaelic'.

Unreal that people would even ASK this question. The best English in the world is spoken in Ireland.

You'll be fine with your English. Just be aware of the difference of terminologies. eg. Lorry = truck, pavement =sidewalk, and Spiral = Irish rapper who got evicted from Big Brother 7 (I think he was rubbish as a rapper anyway).
