I have been a very open minded, very very liberal person. However, a "friend" of mine thought it might be funny to show me a suicide video. After watching this 15 sec suicide video of a teenage boy, I really do have a 100% differnt view on abortion, I cannot see how babies life (for any reason) should be taken away, without extreme circumstances. I saw this video over 5 months ago, the effect still hold strong, so I ask you, am I still a liberal?

Being liberal or conservitive has no bearing on what people think about abortion. I am more liberal but deplore the thought of someone using abortion as a form of birth control

I don't think that you should be focusing on whether or not you are liberal. Why should you have to put a label on it? If you choose not to take a label such as "liberal" you can have any views or opinions that you like and not have to worry about what people think. And to answer your question specifically, yes, you can be a "liberal" and be against abortion. Being a "liberal" or a "conservative" does not necessarily mean you believe one way or another, the labels are only there to give people an idea of what thought and concepts you usually lean towards. It isn't anything set in stone.

I can't see the connection you made between watching a death flick of a teenager and your changed position regarding termination of a fetus. It sounds like you had an emotional response to the traumatic film and extrapolated that to a political direction. A conservative would call your experience "a moment of clarity" in the life of a liberal. But a liberal would say you stopped processing information (like the effect on the mother) because of an emotional event. Politicians prey on emotion all the time. Hitler was a master. Anyhow - you're entitled to be a mix.

Of course you can.

The terms "liberal" and "conservative" tend to reflect a general view that includes a lot of things, from political actions to how a society should operate to economic theories. It isn't just about "hot" issues like abortion or guns or homosexual marriage.

A person who takes their civic duties seriously looks at each issue and decides on each one individually. While the bulk of their opinions may fit neatly into the "liberal" or "conservative" slot, that doesn't mean they are going to follow that party's line on everything. People who just blindly follow a party platform on all issues are not responsible Americans. They are sheep.

You can believe and have whatever opinions you want. The important thing is that you feel good and comfortable with your decisions or feeling. All that other stuff is just about labels.

I think that liberal or conservative are deeper than abortion. It's a whole way of thinking and I seriously doubt that a stance on one thing being different from what's expected doesn't make you the total opposite.
I believe in different levels of conservatism and liberalism. Maybe, being 10 the most liberal and 1 the most conservative you're not a 10, maybe you're an 8, does that make you a conservative?

Yes, although you may want to take your newfound views on abortion into account when you vote. My family had been Democrats since the 1800s and had also always been pro-life. They were Democrats because that is the party that always stood up for the working man. Today, me, my parents and most of my relatives are Republicans because of values issue such as this one. I don't agree with Republicans on a lot of things, but this issue and some related ones are important enough to me that I generally support Republicans.

I say yes....if it is only one or two issues that you are not in agreement with, then yes. You have to understand also, that the definitions of liberal and conservative are always changing......John Kennedy was liberal back in 1962 but if you took what he believed in back then and compared it to today he'd be considered a conservative in 2006. Anyway, I think you can still be considered liberal if you are pro-life, but probably not for more than 10 years from now.

I am against the war in Iraq, I do not support Bush, and I am against abortion without exception. I am actually surprised that more liberals aren't against the killing of innocent human beings in the womb. Continue to educate yourself on abortion and see where it goes. you can have liberal views on politics and social conditions, and how things are run in the world. but senseless death is hard to stomach if you are a normal person, regardless of your worldview. and abortion is a hard issue.. freedom to manage your body as you wish vs. killing a potential person. it's not easy. you're liberal but moral too. that's a good thing. sorry about the video, some things should not be viewed.

Yes, you can be a liberal and feel that way, just as well as you cn be conservative and be pro choice. You should not feel limited to the "guidelines" of your political party, believe what you feel is best. That is the right answer. If the majority of your beliefs are liberal, than name your self a liberal.
