places (such as work, colleges, ect.) have a certain quota they have to fill, that have to be minorities. people complain saying that they'll take an unqualified minority just to fill the quota, overlooking qualified people.

Affirmative Action are regulations set in place to assure that ALL applicants who apply for a job are screened, interviewed and selected fairly in accordance with Affirmative Action.

Affirmative actions, states that companies must hire QUALIFIED miniorities in certain positions.

So in that case there should be a certain quota of miniorities hired.
Which prior to affirmative action, you can walk through a given fortune 500 company and see not one Hispanic, not one Black, not one Asian, nor native American at that company.

Personally, I do not desire to work at any company that has to have affirmative action in place.

A lot of people get pissed, or feel its unfair because they take it to mean, "just" hire minorities, "fill a quota" such is not the case.
And just hiring "anybody" can cost you $, so a company still has to select the creme de la creme.

If your not qualified, and you are not able to do a certain job, your were believed to do, you should be fired, period.
No matter what color.

That's where you see alot of the reverse, a lot of common people who are way more knowledge than their boss, but that's whole other question.

It's an action, which is affirmative. It's a way to help out minorities, by forcing employers to hire a certain % of darkies. The thinking is that society has wronged darkies in the past, especially ******, so, to make up for this wrong, darkies are given an advantage. It's not fair to Whites, and not fair to darkies, either. If we, The US, really want to help out Blacks and other people of color, we need to start much sooner. We should invest lots and lots of money in education, and housing and health-care, and nutrition, and decent clothes to wear, etc. Then, and only then, can we have a chance of permanently lifting the darkies up, out of a cycle of poverty. Just be glad to be White........I sure am!

Give all races & genders a chance.

I know many educated white men would like to go back to the days when only a land owning male could vote & elect the president. Guess what the only section of society that could do so would be a white male. At that time they could abuse white women and just about kill men & women of Black, Hispanic, & native American origin. I guess the wheel of time changes.... and the now the white male in American society is at best a neutered puppy, neither liked or respected by white women or the other races. What goes around comes around.

PS The loser 'solipsistic' who above me is a clasic example of a neutered white male who probably lost his woman to a darkie

Affirmative action is supposed to level the playing field, as another person responded. Unfortunately, the real effect of affirmative action is reverse discrimination.

Specific actions in recruitment, hiring, upgrading and other areas designed and taken for the purpose of eliminating the present effects of past discrimination, or to prevent discrimination....

so basicly its to "diversify" an enviorment... i have no problem with it... its just that some times it goes too far.
