I'm trying not to be biased, but I had posted a question asking why people would spend so much on a purse with Louis Vuitton on it, and I was called poor, etc....
You know what? I have designer brand clothes, but I go for SALES, and I could afford to buy something expensive, but why bother when I could get a new outfit for every day of the week, with a brand name on sale for the price of one outfit full price? I call it common sense. I'm not saying that designer brands are bad, they are usually quality, but I think it's so shallow to call me poor because I'd rather not go broke trying to impress other people. Why are people so shallow?

I agree with you -- it's important to know how to manage your money, and the people that spend wildly actually become poor by going into debt and buying things they really can't afford.

Personally I only wear brand name clothes, purses, and shoes. But the clothes don't make you. You make the clothes. And some people buy all these name brands clothes to be cool and then they don't even have the money for a soda. Don't worry about what people say or think. Cause some name brands are so ugly they aren't even worth the price. Like those ugly as Gucci sweaters with all those damn colors .

I totally agree with you. I'd rather buy something on sale than to pay full price for it. That way I have even more money to spend on other things I want. It's very shallow to call you poor because you are smart enough not to pay full price for something when you can wait for it to go on sale.

If you have enough sense to recognize that paying $300 (or more) is way beyond sane for a handbag, then you are considered to be "cheap" in the Credit driven economy of the USA today. [Even our CHILDREN are being told that they NEED to have a credit card]. Credit cards are a "must have" to buy or sell on the Net, rent a car, reserve movie tickets, etc. People who insist on living within their income, and who will not even OWN a credit card, or refuse to go into any type of DEBT, are taken to be "shortsighted", "snobs", or "Cheap". You can't win. Just accept that you are among a shrinking minority of people who have More Sense Than Money, and Continue to hold onto your Good Financial intuition!

Bah, those people are shallow and their opinions are not worth considering. Those are the kind of people who spend beyond their means and end up in massive debt or in bankruptcy because it was more important to brag about how much they spent on clothes than learn the value of a dollar.
I've gotten 99% of my clothes from second-hand stores and have gotten compliments about my clothes by people who have no idea that they weren't new. Besides, it's not the clothes, but how you wear them that's important. Carry yourself with dignity and confidence and you can make even rags look fabulous.

People are shallow.
There are reasons why, I am sure, but being a nerdy, brainy bookwork type, who couldn't care less what people wear, I can't know what the reasons are.
I think it's partly a problem of the media trying to sell us on this life style that moves merchandise. This has happened at the expense of of caring about building our minds and imagination, and loving people and building relationships.
Ask yourself, what is really important?

I agree with ur practical thinking. but all people r not shallow - in fact, a lot think and do the same as u. just that not everybody is ready to confess that yes, this thing was got on sale and not in an expensive boutique.

They are shallow. Clothes and money are just material things. What matters is what is in your heart, not what is in your wallet. I am not rich, but I am trying raise money for JDRF right now. That is more important to me, than anything else, except my cat. My cat is one of the most important things in my life.
