"Dividens" appears all over the internet, but is this an actual accounting term or just a word that's one-letter shy of its proper spelling?

I'm pretty sure it's just a wrong spelling...

There is no word in English that's spelled "dividens."

You're right: The word appears all over the Internet, incorrectly spelled.

And you're right: It should be spelled "dividends."

I am a highly qualified native speaking teacher of English. I would always ignore 'spell checker' as it is based on american English and not standard English spelling and grammar. Use whatever version of English you are most comfortable with, but be consistent and do not swop about within the same piece of writing. That's what I advise my students to do. To Dorothy - Yes, it does matter!

It doesn't count as a word according to the Google spellcheck but it does for Yahoo!, how odd.

When I search "dividen" in Google, it tells me that maybe the word I'm looking for is "dividend." But when I search with Yahoo!, it shows me stuff in Spanish or some other foreign language.

"dividens" is not a word, it is a misspelling of dividends. Funny - similar - how many people refer to a fiscal year as a "physical" year. :-)

While it appears all over the internet, it does not appear in text books, journals, or newspapers because no one is checking for mispellings on the internet, while in hard copies, you do have to check for mispellings.

I think it is a misspelled word - and unfortunately, there is not always an editor for the internet.

As far as I know (I highly trust my dictionary) the latter would be correct. It lost its last 'd' on the way to the spelling bee.
