Obviously it is not done except by parents with small children or maybe transgendered people, but what if you purposely went in the wrong bathroom whenever you were out in public? it seems like something they might do on the show jackass (maybe they already have!). my guess is that you could get charged with disorderly conduct even though it seems unlikely.

It sounds a little tame for Jackass.

Personally, I don't care if it's illegal or not. I was on the road for an hour, pregnant and had to go. The ladies room at the rest stop had a line, two stalls open (one of which had a lady in it who I swear had time to read the whole of War & Peace while she was going) and a cleaning crew that had half the stalls shut down and were eyeing up the two stalls that were functional.

If I hadn't gotten into a stall in time not to embarrass myself, to hell with "technicallly legal", I was going into the men's room if I needed to.

Let them arrest the pregnant lady who just had to pee.

Technically, yes. It would be trespass since the area is clearly marked as not being for your sex which means the property owner intended on excluding you for what would surely be held by any court to be a reasonable purpose, protecting privacy. In practice, I have often "stood guard" at a bar to let some girls into the guys room to reduce the line they were facing and really guys do not seem to mind. I have never heard of women doing the same for us though.

Its illegal for men to go into the women's restroom, unless you're the janitor.
If a guy did that, they may get the security onto you if you contnue to stay inside. You may or may not get in trouble, and maybe hear the expected hysterical screaming, depending on what you do in there.

If a woman did that, she can pretty much walk in, pee, wash her hands and walk out. Because the guys will just look bewildered or amused. I've seen that happen on a number of occasions myself, in different countries, at that. Their reason is that the ladies washroom is crowded or dirty. Stuff like that.

Maybe someone should suggest looking into expanding the ladies room.

No, it is not illegal. But the subsequent public scandal that someone might charge you with will definitely cause a lot of headache, reputation problems and even legal sanctions. Most especially when it is deliberate as there is motive.

Someone would have to call the cops on ya, I guess.

Just tell them that the other bathroom was full and you really, really had to go.
