I want to get the Nokia 2600 phone. This is a dual band phone. I am wondering if this means it will be able to get service where ever a single is if I am on a no roaming service system. I live up in Maine.

Thanks

The "dual-band" Nokia 2600 phone you're looking at supports 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. The primary GSM band in the US is 1900, while 850 is being opened up for use in more urban areas where increased traffic density is desired. Not sure what the GSM coverage up in your stretch is like. Might want to pull up a coverage map from the carrier you're going to get your service from to make sure.

Those frequency bands are not supported outside of North America. Thus, don't bother using it on your trip to Europe or Asia because it's nothing more than a paperweight there. A truly worldwide GSM phone is at least tri-band, and there are a number of quad-bands out there that do the trick.

Dual band refers to the service that differs between the US and Europe. US uses one band, Europe uses the other. So, you're essentially getting a single-band phone. The US uses the 850 and the 1900 bands, so you may not be able to use it wherever one of the bands is not available.
