Oh my gosh! Are you thinking of Zoobilee Zoo? I used to watch that, but it was way before the 90's because I turned 18 in 1992. (Unless you're thinking of something different, in which case, the only thing that comes to mind is Zaboomafoo, but they're not dressed like lions.)

Zoobilee Zoo was cute, though. My favorite was Wazzat Kangaroo! Boy, I'll bet my daughter would like that show. Is it even on anymore?
