I personally would not look for anything that has been used on TV or in movies, because, like I just said, it has been used. I would try to incorporate other styles but with added hip hop attitude. Even though they are so different, mixing ballet with a more street style is a great combination and will show your range as a dancer. Or try changing up your music- Some of the best hip hop style routines I have come up with were to classic rock or punk songs.
Choreographing is never easy, Good Luck!!

Ok i was a professional dancer and i used to run into those problems all the time. the reason is that you are just so used to moving one way that it is easier. I would suggest before trying tto make a dance routine. Watch some hip hop videos and then just turn on some music and let your body does what it is best natural. Let that inspire you to create new routines and moves. Best luck baby.

I've watched Dance-Offs and there are all kinds of moves you can pick up from television shows.
If you want to inspire yourself into creating new Dance Moves on your own, it helps if you develop a System.
I was answering a previous question today with someone who had problems getting over insults about her nose and her looks. I told her that she should pinpoint what it is that triggers those thoughts and how to avoid them.
The same applies with being able to tag or organize all of your Dance Moves. Number all your dance moves and write them on a sheet of paper. Then break down what you do in each specific dance move to the foot steps.
Analyze your Dance Moves and literally deconstruct your moves by individual steps that comprise each of your moves so that you can reconstruct a new dance move using elements from other dance moves you already do.
It's like playing with Legos. Imagine if once dance move you do is made up of five Colored Legos. Each Colored Lego is a component of that Dance Move. When you pull apart your Legos, you're taking those components and refitting them into a different arrangement.
That's what children do with Legos when they create something. Then they pull it apart and build something else new using the same Legos and fitting them together differently.
Another way to improve your dance moves is by studying other types of dance. If you understand the Fundamentals of Ballroom, Breakdancing, Foxtrot, Hip Hop, Waltz, Swing, Mamba, Rumba, and Tango, you'll understand the style and grace of movement that comes with dancing.
Dancing used to be with a partner before Rock 'n' Roll came along. There was Swing that could match the tempo of a 4/4 beat or in cut time as 2/2. However, the children of the 1960s and 1970s didn't know how to do partner dancing and they began dancing independently of one another.
From the 1970s - present, that independence continued to manifest. Ironically enough, you'd see groups of girls at dances in circle dancing together. That's a reflection of the cultural trends that have evolved from patterns of dancing.
The Macarena, Electric Slide, and Line-Dancing is a semblance or organization. Dance routines seen with Cheerleaders like in Competitions focus more on Synchronization.
With your project or hobby, are you focusing on complexity of moves or being able to start trends where people can copy or mimic your style so you'll gain a following?
If you want to take a Scientific Approach, take a sheet of paper and number all your body parts right down to the joints on your elbows and knees. Then when you're choreographing movement, you'll use that Number Tagging System on your body to create new movement and follow the path of your body.
Computer Animators for Pixar and CGI in movies have this broken down into a Science when they're having Cartoon Characters show a wide range of motion. You don't need to be an artist. Just do Stick Figure Drawings.

I would say watch MTV and VH1 for inspiration. Take dance classes because a lot of Hip hop dance also includes dance moves from jazz. Never stop trying to learn. Another inspiration... belly dance... look at Shakira!

I'd suggest expanding your horizons by learning other dance styles. You'll be able to bring something really new into your hip-hop and it will look truly unique, not like an immitation of MTV. Watching professional Latin showcases might be a good inspiration too.

Try choreographing something where you don't use your usual moves in that combination at all. This will force you to break the cycle and you may find a new new combination you just love. Also watch other videos and dancers to pick up something new.
