Yes they are safe. They check it everyday for any mechanical problems and do run tests before letting people on.

Yes, and yes.

Most coasters have 12 wheels as opposed to four on a car. They have wheels to keep the car on the track and wheels to keep the car from jumping up too far. That's why on some rides you might feel like you're getting tossed out of your seat, but the car is just fine because it was designed to give you that thrill.

That said, coaster rides are just fine. Insurance agencies have spoiled some of the fun by requiring additional restraints. These additional restraints are in general, NOT due to the ride needing additional protection, but rather to discourage the patrons from doing stupid things themselves.

A vast majority of the serious injuries on any coaster (still safer than most any mode of transportation), is caused by the patron doing something stupid like trying to stand up while car is in motion, sticking hands outside the car in a dangerous spot, unbuckling their seat belt, etc.

And yes, despite some coasters looking more rickety every day, they do check the ride and for larger rides, the maintenance guys walk the track every day to visually inspect the ride.

Hope that helps!

They are much safer now than in years past. The realization of law suits and liability insurance makes them toe the line pretty closely. Would you want to own something so dangerous and not make sure it was running properly?

Although I have to say when my 11 y/o daughter went to Cedar Point this summer and the roller coaster she was riding stopped at the peak she probably didn't think so. Especially when she had to climb down the cat walk to get off of it.

I'll take my chances and keep both feet on the ground. Besides my equilibrium isn't good so roller coasters make me sick.

they are safe but i meen there is always the chance of a chain breaking and an off-track or something... but the chance is very little... and all parks are required to shut it down for a day and do all say tests and do it once a day

Some do but I'm sure some don't but if you want to have any fun you'll have to take that chance.
