I don't understand why football coaches wear "regular" clothes on the sidelines while baseball coaches "suit-up" and wear a real baseball uniform. Why do basketball coaches wear suits and ties for a game? Why don't football referees wear helmets? They are always getting knocked around.

Good questions...

Tradition usually dictates what coaches and managers wear. Baseball managers traditionally wear a baseball uniform. I think back in the day they were part of the roster and no rule dictated then who could play and who couldn't. NFL coaches usually dress alike and in some kind of warmer, sportier attire. Face it, non football players would look stupid in helmet and pads. I could care less about the NBA, but college basketball coaches dress as the atheletic director deems appropriate. Bobby Knight was always pretty casual. But PJ Carlisimo usually always wore a tie.

Football refs should wear some kind of protective gear on their heads. I think you're about them being so vulnerable to injury out there with those guys.
