how to erased the icons in the notification in the task bar?

For Windows XP (and probably 2000)
There are "icons" on the RIGHT and LEFT side of the taskbar ...
The Applets (RIGHT SIDE), cannot be "erased" but you can "hide" those that aren't used a lot:
right-click the taskbar, select properties. The last item in the dialog "hide inactive" ... check this ON.
If you're talking about the icons on the LEFT side, these are called Quick Launch icons. To "erase" them, do:
right-click the taskbar, goto Toolbars, UNCHECK Quick Launch.

right click on it and click the option you want
