That's a good question. Women are very competitive creatures.
If a woman is insecure and perceives another woman to have an advantage over her----whether it be looks, intelligence, personality, likeableness, education------she may feel threatened by that----if she is insecure within herself. That's my two cents worth. She will try to find some way to undermine her or knock her down a peg or two, in order to buoy her own self-esteem. Hence the meanness factor.

The majority of the responses you received cite the one major reason: jealousy. Women who have low self-esteem are usually the ones who are the first to criticize, put down, belittle, and just beat down another woman. I used to fit the profile until two things happened: I became an avid follower of Christ Jesus and I matured.
Although men make excellent friends, a lot of times, they are one step away from doing the horizontal mambo with you if you give them half a chance. You do not have to worry about this with girls.
Women must realize this fact: there will always be someone prettier, someone smarter, someone who weighs less, who looks better in the latest style, who is more popular, yada, yada, yada...deal with it, girls! Accept yourself for who you are right now...this very minute. You have been marvelously made by a God who loves you and you should take joy in how diverse we are from each other, but yet, how much alike we are, too. We each want to be loved and appreciated for who we are...do try to appreciate one another because we are each special in our own right!

It is fun. Its a form of interaction that creates a lot of energy, and potentially draws more women into it so there is a cyclone of cattiness. It is a rush. Men get to wrestle around with each-other, we talk (you know what) to each other.

Because no woman will ever see her self good enough for her or anyone else. Every woman will always find another girl, with a prettier body, or face, or speech. We always pick out something better about them than our selves && we never learn to accept our selves for us && love our selves for us, so jealousy is always there && I guess what what causes all the meaniess!

It's called jealousy, envy, and competition. It's also a natural thing for us women to hate on each other. Stupid huh?

Its called, "jealousy", "envy"...... Women always feel like they have to be in competition with each other, thats why most of my friends are guys! I dont have time for that petty stuff!

i have noticed that too. Guys will punch each other out and ten minutes later it's forgotten. Women get nasty and catty. Not sure why but good question.
