Vodou is very much a real thing. Especially to the millions of people that practice the religion. Vodou is an African Traditional Religion (ATR) that has its roots in various African tribes. The one most are familiar with is Vodou as it is practiced in Haiti. Many people believe that Vodou is polytheistic, it is not. We believe in only one God called Bondye (Good God).

The lwa are not gods they are elevated spirits made so by Bondye to help us. This was so Bondye can maintain the universe without having the hassle of dealing with our mundane issues.

In Vodou we believe in honoring our ancestors because they have a personal interest in helping us...they are family. We believe in serving the lwa. If you serve the lwa they lwa serve you in return. It is a you help me....I help you relationship.

We do not serve Bondye as Christians do. He is so distant from us for us to bother him with our issues. Even though we don't have service for him we acknowledge that without Bondye we would have nothing. He created us and the lwa. For that we are grateful.

Yes, it's a real superstiton. If by "real" you mean do the spells work, well...

Haiti (the home of Voodoo)and Cuba (which has a large population of Santerios, Palos, Abaqa, etc.) are the only 2 thrid world nations in the Western Hemisphere. Cuba is the only communist dictatorship. Haiti leads the world in AIDS cases. The people of both these countries risk their lives in homeade rafts trying to escape to the U.S. Do these people sound like they have magical powers to you??? If the people in New Orleans (one of the poorest crime ridden cities in the U.S.) had magic Voodoo power, do you think they would have sat idly by and allowed Hurricane Katrina to destroy the city? (answers=no and no)

Vodu (preferred spelling in English) is one of a number of Afro-New World religions derived from the Ifa religious traditions of Western Africa. Santeria, or Regla de Ocha is a related religion that formed in Spanish-speaking New World regions; Vodu formed in French-speaking New World regions, primarily Haiti and the French colonies of present-day Louisiana. (Palo mayombe is from more Congolese origins.)

Vodu is a polytheistic/animistic religion based on extremely complex systems of divination, on divine possession, and on initiatory experience. It is nothing like the "voodoo" of TV and horror movies really.

yes voodoo is a very real thing... although it is not what most people suspect... it does incorporate some magic but it is mostly spiritual... protection from evil spirits and enemies... growing up in louisiana (in the backwoods of louisiana) i have seen many people practice these rituals... if it weren't real it wouldn't have been around this long...
