I have friends who live in PA, and I was visiting them last week. I never really noticed, but I guess there weren't a lot of flies. I don't know what would cause a decline in the population. Maybe they go in cycles like Cicadas?

It's impossible to count flies, so nobody could possible notice any decline in the fly population.

you ever notice when there are less mosquitoes than normal,, or fire flies?? its all because of conditions,, i.e. dry spells mean less water for skeeters to grow,,, etc,,, your fly population may be down because of drought or over abundance of rain,, etc, etcbut they usually return enmass as soon as conditions return to norm!!
