Okay, I'm getting mixed signals. Some say it's legal if you don't use it illegally. But then again some say that it is illegal. I want to know for sure.

Limewire is legal software.
Using Limewire to download copyrighted material or to make copyrighted material available for download is illegal, unless you have the permission of the copyright holder.

If you use Limewire to download copyrighted music, videos, tv shows, or programs, it is illegal. If you use it to download non-copyrighted (they want it to be free) material, it is okay. Usually Limewire is used for illegal purposes.
It's like a gun, it can be used legally (for hunting), but can be used illegally (killing someone).

Limewire is legal. There is not law against share files between two people. UNLESS the file itself is copyrighted material. Limewire is still a legal program, but using it to steal a movie or song is illegal.
Owning a gun is legal, but shooting someone with it is not...

Limewire is not illegal. What you do with it can be.
I'll say it simply...
I can download a video my friend made off Limewire because
a) the video is his and
b) he gave me permission to download it.
Downloading movies and music from other artists/directors is illegal because:
a) they didn't upload it for it to be downloaded and
b) they didn't give you permission to download their music/video

yes it is legal, to have it and use it. what is illegal is if you use it to download copyrighted material. and since most people use it just for that(downloading illegal stuff) it makes it look like illegal
