I'm famliar with the catchy book titles about the young ones (Your 3 year old: friend or enemy?), but my perceptive and intelligent daughter often regresses unexpectedly. "Shut up." "Idiot" mostly directed to siblings. "It's not me, it's him." Balking at even the idea of being held accountable. She knows she's violating the house rules; I know she knows. She knows I know she knows. What do you recommend?

First sit down and talk with her, make sure she understands that you know. And if she stills continues, the next step is punishment. Take something away from that she usually does everyday. She will learn quickly that she needs to behave. oh, and please don't listen to the first answer is just a rude and sick-minded person. Good luck to you and your daughter.

She sounds like a strong-minded girl. Pressing her nose against a refrigerator sounds a little harsh. If you hurt her feelings too much she will grow to dislike you and resent you. What you should do is talk to her. The best time is when you get home from work or late in the afternoon. She will be up and ready to listen. Mornings and nights are bad because she will be cranky or tired. List to her the things you dislike and together come up with a punishment system. Stick to it! She will give in to the punishments because she helped create them. Before you finalize the system, make sure both of you are happy!

Now is the time to start teaching her how to behave herself and be nice to others, because she is heading into adolsescence and she will need those social skills. Most of all she needs to learn to take responsibility for her actions. Next time she pisses you off, show her who's boss. Tell her exactly what you don't like about her behavior and why, how she should have acted in the situation, and then come up with some consequences. For example, if she insults one of her siblings, make her do something nice for them like help with chores or homework. Pretty soon she will get sick of you picking at her and start acting like she should.

take away things that matter most. a two week rule without her favorite thing might make her think next time.
