It may have had a shedding problem at the tip of the tail. I have 4 leos and a friend of mine has two. A similar problem happened to one of his and it had to do with the shedding. Keep an eye on it and gently clean it. If it starts to get worse take it to the vet. Hopefully the affected part will fall off on its own, don't try to remove it yourself though, it could cause more damage. Good luck.

seems the tail tip had its skin stripped off by some accident? IF THAT IS SO, be careful dont let it catch any infection, think about treating the sore tip with antibiotics (wash the scab of caked sand grains, inspect and apply antibiotic ointment). or hope that it dries up and falls off by itself. give the animal water to drink, watch out for appetite loss as a sign of feeling unwell.. good luck and fast regeneration
