Pernell Roberts, who played Adam, and later played on Trapper John, MD is still alive at age 78. He left Bonanza as he was "displeased with the writing and direction that the show was taking".

YES He is still alive. The only one of the 4 Cartwright's,3 brothers and the dad, that is still alive. Lorne Green, [ the dad], Dan Blocker, son # 2, Hoss, Michael London, son # 3 & the youngest, Little Joe have all passed on. Pernell Roberts who played Adam Cartwright,the oldest son, is still living.
