The punctuation always goes inside the quotes,
so...that means the first one is better.
However, I noticed that the first word of the sentence is not capitalized, and it should be. Always capitalize the first word of a sentence (and the pronoun I is always capitalized no matter what).

Commas and periods always go inside the quotation marks.
I
Semicolons and colons always go outside the quotation marks.
Question marks, exclamation marks, and dashes go inside quotation marks when they are part of the quotation [ Where is your copy of "The Raven"? ], and outside when they do not, ["How cold is it outside?" my mother asked.].
