Color is such a personal thing, and you can experiment before you apply it to every wall.
After applying thousands of gallons of paint, and knowing that the customer is always right,,,even when they aren't, I have some suggestions.
By the way,,, no answers here might be truly right,,,or wrong,,,we are offering personal opinions.
You can go wild or mild, static or animated, it's your room, you have to live in it. The good news is that paint color can be changed by painting over.
Since the carpet is the greater of the investemnst, and may last longer than a color choice, I suggest, Burgundy,,,Navy Blue,,, Shades or green,,,teal, forest, seafoam, as examples.
You can paint 3 walls one shade of a base color choice and either lighten or darken that shade on the 4th wall. If you want to "play" you can attempt Faux finishes using sponging, rag rolling, feathering, etc.
Your options are soooooooooo varied, and may include getting a color wheel, or a chip sample "booklet" from a decent paint store.
Brand names have various levels of what I hate to use as a term,,,"Quality",,,
I prefer any paint that isn't strictly a store brand, but they have their place.
From HD, I use Behr. From other suppliers I may use Sherwin Williams, or Porter, or Color Wheel.
I also suggest SATIN, as opposed to anything else that isn't a kitchen or bath. Paint is designed with levels of agents in it that allow for durability and clean-ability. A quality SATIN allows those.
I've been doing this for a very long time, and mean no offense to anyone else,,,I'm just adding my opinions to the mix.

My entire upstairs has beige or taupe color carpeting and I took a sample to Home Depot paint department and they did an exact match in their Behr paint brand. My husband put crown molding around the ceiling and the ceiling was painted 75% lighter than the walls. One of the other bedrooms was painted in a soft yellow with white trim. The nice thing about beige is that just about any color you choose would work.
If you really would like to see what the room would look like they have paint Cd's that you can purchase from Home Depot or Lowes for around $5. Take a picture of your room and download it into the program and you can play around with the different paint colors and see what your room would really look like.
Good luck!

stop by Sherwin Williams and check out Navajo white for a lighter color and sensational sand for something in a darker hue. A good thing to remember is if you pick up a color card with multiple colors on it you can start with a lighter color on the card and put a sample on the wall and if you don't like it the same paint can be re-tinted to any darker color on the card. This keeps you from having to buy multiple paints if the first choice isn't what you wanted once you tried it. As far as the paint id go with either pro mar 200 or cashmere paint lines from Sherwin Williams. The sheen depends on personal preference but I tend to favor Pro Mar 200 low sheen it's in between flat and eggshell so it hides wall imperfections wonderfully and is still washable also it is easy to patch paint in the future. hope it helps.

Sherwin-Williams "Swiss Coffee", good brand (covers well, long-lasting) and Sw.Coff. goes with absolutely anything. It's a kind of white color.
