Pluto has been formally removed from the list of 9 planets in the solar system by a recent international convention on astronomy. We now have 8 planets because Pluto is too small and doesn't have a planet-like orbit. In fact, they recently found another pluto-like planet that's a little bigger than pluto even further out in space (they call it Xena). According to a recent news story there are a lot of objects in our solar system that are completely round, and the same size or bigger than Pluto. It was only included as a planet in the 1930s because we didn't know how common those balls of rock are in our solar system.
Hope that helps!

Scientists decided to downsize from 9 planets to 8. Now Pluto is considered a "dwarf". just go to search and type in Pluto if you need more scientific data. Good luck with the homework.

I believe Pluto was downgraded by a team of astromers around the world. I think it is smallest planet in our solar system. Charon its moon is much larger than Pluto. So pluto got downgraded to a dwarf planet. I have added a link for you reading if you interesting in finding out more. Good luck on you assignment.
Take care.

Pluto was declassified- it is no longer considered a planet because it does not "dominate" its region of space and its orbit overlaps that of another planet.

it isno longer concidered a planet, because it has flown to far out of orbit. and has gotten out of line, so it lost its name.
