Business casual means that you can pretty much wear anything that is not too provocative, but no jeans and t-shirts, and all clothes should be in good condition (no stains, holes, rips, etc.) When they refer to casual, rather than business-attire it just means that you are not required to wear a suit every day. Invest in some dress-pants and some blouses...this will carry you through until you get a feel for what other people are wearing, and what you can get away with.

When your boss is referring to casual wear, she is referring to business casual attire. That includes khakis and a nice button top shirt or something similiar. A lot of those clothes can be found at either Ann Taylor or The Gap. As for Fridays, I'd consider wearing jeans with a nice top. You can also find some cute and less expensive items at Old Navy, which is a sister group to The Gap. If you don't live close to any of these stores, you can shop at these stores online. Good luck in finding the right clothes :)

I would not suggest jeans, but don't go running for the 3 piece suit, either! I think the key here is casual elegance. Why don't you try some wonderful, adaptable pieces that can work in conjunction, or alone? That way you can wear them to work, but can also wear them out in a social capacity.
For example (for girls): high waisted skirts; a crisp, white, shirt; beautifully coloured, cotton button up shirts; beautifully tailored black pants; a gorgeous blazer; and funky accessories such as scarves and nifty belts that can either dress and outfit up, or make it feel a little more casual etc. etc.
Most of all, try and make sure that everything you buy (and don't ignore 2nd hand stores, I have got everything from [really good quality] D&G to Chanel at my local St. Vinnies!!) is fairly classic in style and will coordinate with each other: don't buy 'outfits in theselves'- They will date faster than you can get your money's worth out of them! This will give you a really limitless array of combinations to work with, and it will be as simple as buying a few accessories to dress up your outfit and to give it a modern feel!! Tada! Wardrobe for life!
Good luck with your new job! Don't stress too much about the clothes, I'm sure they hired you for your brains and abilities, not because of what you were wearing!

When they say you can wear jeans on Friday, they mean only Friday. Business casual means look nice, and look professional, but be comfortable.

Anything that is not too revealing, too short, or tight and definitely no flip flops I think passes as casual wear. I think that even with you dress a bit more professional, it is ok. Congrats on the job!!

If you're unsure, err on the side of being dressed up. In other words, you're probably better off not wearing jeans.

Dunno what's dmv ! Casual generally means "no low cut jeans", midriff tops, micro minis - all too distracting in an office. Mayb "decent" jeans on Fridays wud b acceptable. Think ....... if u r going into n office .... or hanging out with yr buddies ...... what'd b most apt ?
