According to the 2000 Census, the least populated US state is Wyoming with 493,782 inhabitants.

In terms of Population, WYOMING with its 509,294 people (as per July 1, 2005) is the smallest.

Rhode Island is the smallest state in area. I think maybe Alaska would be the smallest state in population, but I'm not sure.
