This is Steppenwolf, Magic Carpet Ride, and though I'm sure it's also available on "Greatest Hits" compilations, I believe it first came out on their 2nd album, titled "SECOND", released in 1968 on ABC/Dunhill. If you like the song, you might like some of their other hits. Born to be Wild comes to mind, as does The Pusher, from their first album STEPPENWOLF.
