i.e.
Is it your religion?
Is it your conscience?
Is it the majority?
Is it the law?

Was it something you were born knowing, or is it something you have learned?

I'm interested to hear what people think and how they determine right from wrong, and if it is possible to find a common gound.

FYI, I am asking not because I don't know, but because I would like a consensus.

To "The Rock" I don't think punching oneself in the face is an example of right and wrong, because the pain felt has nothing to do with being right or wrong. I hope you grow up soon.

All of the above. Some people believe in altruism, self-less goodness. However, although most of our beliefs are based on our cultures, sometimes biology just makes us sway towards a certain side. The is not definite right or wrong in reality, only what each individual culture defines as right or wrong. Some believe in canabolism, others believe in sacraficing each other.

Punch your self in the face as hard as you can. Did it feel good? The common ground would be that you liked it. Or have you friend drive over your foot with their car. Does it feel good? The common ground would be that id does feel good to have your toes mushroomed and bleeding. You ask a stupid question and get a stupid answer.

All of the above. Except for law and majority. I think it is your personal morals and morality and legality have nothing in common. IMO.

Wrong:
1) If I would not want it done to me, it's probably wrong.
2) The law.

Right:
Would it increase happiness / improve the situation for someone (not necessarily me).

born with it. we all know it's wrong to lie, steal, kill, etc.

that's why we feel guilt, shame, etc. for it.

also why we try to rationalize our actions.

also why we get so upset when other people lie, cheat and steal our stuff. because we know it's wrong.

also, why do we celebrate bravery and not cowardness? because we know some things are right and wrong... born with it.
