i am horrible at public speaking, or doing presentation in front of class or speaking to a group small as 4 or 5 people and i think it is because of lack of confidence in myself. i don't know why this is the case, i have a healthy self-esteem, and i do have confidence in other areas of my life, i have no problem in dating or talking to men. i'm usually ok with one on one, but in front of groups, its a different story. help!

You need to write out your speech and then memorize it perfectly - to the point where you can say it in your sleep. Your speech will go well if you do this, because you'll find that you're able to concentrate on delivery and reaction instead of being tongue-tied and forgetting where you were and where you were going.
Eventually, after enough speeches this way, you'll start being able to extemporize. For now though, memorize. MEMORIZE.

Public speaking does take a little more confidence then talking to friends etc.I use to be petrified to get up and speak. I still get pretty shaky until I get going. One major thing to do is pick topics you know about, have a feeling for,and are comfortable with. While you are speaking use cue cards. Most speakers do and glance around but have a friend know you'll be looking towards him/her more than the others for reassurance. The more you practice the better you'll get and the more you'll feel confident about speaking in public. Good luck.

Well if you "boast" your confidence, then I think you have achieved confidence. But if you want to boost your confidence, dont be so concerned with other people. In my classes when I had to do a presentation, I always figured none of the other students were listening anyway (which is true-- how many presentations from peers in class have you actually paid attention too?) So just remember, no one cares. And when it comes to presentations on subjects you actually care about, you will have no problem presenting.

Practice at home, stand in front of a mirror, try closing your eyes first and then after your speech open your eyes and look at yourself in the mirror and recite your speech again. When in the classroom find one thing to focus on and pretend their is no one else in the room.

When giving a speech in class, stare at the other side of the room and don't even glance at the class.

The good old fashioned trick is to imagine everyone naked! The reason why is that then you realize that they are just like you, they poop, they cry, they do everything that human being does so there is nothing to be intimidated by.
