If you are just renting a room from someone in their house they may have good reason for not wanting you to use the poison in that the rat or rats could die in the walls and smell real bad and getting them out can be an issue but they should either allow you to get rat traps and bait them with peanut butter or they should do something to get rid of the problem themselves, if they wont allow you to do either I would with hold the rent or move out.

properly various the techniques I have been given rid of Rats in our backyard while first movied in 10 years in the past. positioned Decon Traps for Rats, then additionally located Math Balls around the top 2" X 4" on my wood Fence. This saved the Rats off the fence and the Dcon Took care the the remainder of the relatives over a era, 2 weeks. The pals and that i've got not had to any extent further rats seen for the rest time we been residing at this region. although if i alter the Traps two times a 300 and sixty 5 days and positioned out clean Baited traps for Rats and field Mice. we've 2 vacant plenty around us. That entice the rodents. although in the event that they do no longer call our place homestead to any extent further.

Get the rat poisoning anyway, they cant tell you that, unless of course you are renting a room in their house and they have children or animals of their own.
And if you have to then get rat traps (different from mouse traps) a lot larger, any way the best thing to bait them with is peanut butter.
Put the traps in several places. Like under the bed, under the cabinets, between the fridge and stove.

Make sure you get a pair of rubber gloves to put on when you catch one and have to dispose of it.
