The guinea pig population is undergoing exponential growth. What you would do is the following:

Let x equal the number of days that passed since friday. this requires exponents. so Friday is day 1, so....
2^(x-1) when x=1 is 1. on saturday, 2^(x-1) when x=2 is 2. so since Thursday is 7, right? so 2^(x-1) when x=7, is 2^7, so 64 guinea pigs.

"Doubling" is multiplying each total by 2,
so if Friday is 1,
then Saturday is 2x1= 2,
Sunday is 2x2 = 4,
Monday is 2x4= 8,
Tuesday is 2x8= 16,
Wednesday is 2x16= 32,
and Thursday is 2x32= 64 guinea pigs!

n = # of days he's had the guinea pig
2^(n-1) = number of guinea pigs in n days
He's had the guinea for 7 days so:
2^(7-1) = 2^(6) = 64

By thursday he'll have 64 of the little buggers.
