On most standardized tests, an IQ of 100 is at the 50th percentile. Most IQ tests are standardized with a mean score of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. "Gifted" measures above two standard deviations (130+ / top 2%). 109 would be borderline "average"/"high average" since 90-109 is considered "average." In other words, 50% of the population falls in this 90-109 range.
A 14-year-old with a 109 IQ would not be considered more intelligent than a 34-year-old who scored a 109.
IQ scores used to be scored with the following formula:
(Mental Age / Chronological Age) x 100
Mental age refers to the difficulty of problems that the person being assessed can solve, whereas chronological age refers to actual age. So if an 8-year-old tests with a mental age of 10 years old, he would have a 125 IQ ( 10/8 x 100 =125 ). This was how the original IQ test, the Stanford-Binet test (first published in 1916) was scored.
IQ scores are no longer computed in this manner. Now IQ scores are based upon the comparison of the test-taker's score to the scores of other people their age.

Your IQ has nothing to do with your age at this point. (Some would argue that the IQ is variable when you're a small child.) As stated in other posts, 90-110 is all in the average range. Depending on something called the "confidence interval", your IQ could actually be a few points higher or lower than 109. The test was a "snapshot" of how you did that day. So yeah, you're in the high average range and doing okay. (-:

Some people are just spouting random answers here, or things they don't really understand. In fact, 90-109 is average.
IQ measures your "intelligence," not learning, so in theory it doesn't change with age (in actual practice there are a lot of things that can cause a change in your IQ score, especially in developmental years, and there's good reason to argue that education and cultural background significantly bias scores, but basically the fact that you're 14 isn't really relevant to your score).

100 is an average IQ for an adult. So 109 is slightly above an average adult.
Considering you're 14, that's pretty good.

Average for the country 50 years ago. Very good for today, depending on the test.
Don't put much faith in tests. Over 50 years testing has been downgraded, upgraded and high-graded to cover up pandemic mental illnesses that have overtaken the United States.
In 90% of situations hard work usually outweighs intelligence and talent; in any age under any conditions.
If you have confidence in yourself, a sense of adventure, true concern for other people and are in control of a great imagination --- you will pass every test.

An IQ of 100 is about 'normal', whatever that is. So, an IQ of 109 is better than normal.
But remember, IQ isn't everything. Effort is just as important (and sometimes more so).

90-110 is average. IQ is a ratio of mental over chronological age and it could change as you get older relative to how well people score on the test and what the accepted points are.

Yes. Anything above 100 is good for any age. 100 means you're average or something. Anything above 130 means you're gifted.
