B.D. in 1951 from Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania.
There is also evidence that he obtained a doctorate from Boston College, but there is some confusion about whether he completed the requirements for the degree, and whether the degree was awarded in 1953, as he contended, or 1955, as outlined in several biographies.
