I'm a teacher at an elementary school and do some spell checking for most of the Korean teachers. They even use it in writing. And I mean a LOT! Another word they like is "however". I speak a little Korean and from what I can gather is they use these words (the Korean equivalent) a lot when speaking Korean. Just listen to them. There are a couple of words that keep popping up. I guess they think it's OK to keep repeating it in English as well.

I've noticed, living in Japan, that there are many things all Japanese say when they speak English, like 'by the way', for example.

I think it is part of their English learning in school. That would probably explain it for Koreans, too, because I think their education system is similar to that of Japan.

i use the word "actually" quite often. well, im not native english, nor Asian. actually, i learned it from a real american - governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He uses the word "actually" quite often. He has many movies, as you all know. actually, he stopped being an actor 3 years ago. but then again (actually,), he might return to the scenes soon.

I am not asian but why do a lot of american say "you know what i mean" after every sentence like other people are stupid or something. It should be something like that, just an cultural habit.

This is an example of over generalization. Are you jealous that South Korea is catching up to the west ?

I would imagine for the same reason ignorant Americans say "basically" and you "know what I mean" in every sentence.

Why do Californians say Like, I said. Like that. Everything is like.
Or you know? after every sentence. drives me crazy.
If I knew why would I be asking?
Or Southern people say: for sure, with every sentence.

Actually I never noticed it. I will pay attention to see if what you say is actually true. It would actually be a good thing to know.
