You have 195 minutes / 2 days, but on the first day it is 195 + 45 / 2, and the second day it is 195 - 45 / 2.

This is how I would solve it:
1) Subtract 45 minutes from the total minutes (195-45=150 minutes left over)
2) Divide 150 minutes that are left over by 2 days (150/2=75 minutes)
3)Remember we subtracted 45 minutes to begin with, so we have to add that back in since he worked 45 minutes longer on the 1st day, therefore, he worked 75+45=120 minutes on the first day and 75 minutes the second day

Lets say that x is the number of days colton worked on day 2, so day 1 would be x+45
x+(x+45)=195min
so x+x+45=195
2x+45=195
2x=195-45
2x=150
x=150/2
x=75
so colton worked for 75 minutes on day 2
and he worked 75+45= 120 minutes on day 1

let x= the number of minutes Colton worked each day

then:
x= 195-45/2
x= 150/2
x= 75minutes

*since colton worked 45 minutes longer at the first day, we must add 45 minutes to 75.

then:
1st day: 120minutes
2nd day: 75minutes

Let x be the total number of minutes he worked day 2. let x + 45 be the number of minutes he worked day 1.

so...
(x) + (x + 45) = 195 : 2x + 45 = 195 : 2x = 150 : x= 75 so he worked ( 75+45) 120 hours on day 1 and 75 hours on day two. =)
Recommendation: when given these type of problems, always assign variables =)

Take 195 minutes and subtract 45 minutes, (150 minutes). Divide the result by two,(75minutes)....that gives you the answer to day two, and part of the answer to day one. Then add the 45 minutes back onto day one, 75 minutes plus 45 minutes, (120 minutes).

Your answer to day one is 75 minutes, and day two is 120 minutes...You can check that by adding 120 and 75, which brings you back to 195.

I solved this as a subtraction first and a division..but mostly its a word problem. The clue that let me know that I need to subtract was the word "longer". I knew I needed to divide when I read that I needed a total for two days..but I had to subtract first in order to be able to divide by two, (two days), to get two separate units.

If you don't understand that, ask another question. This is an important one to get, because its the kind of question that is helpful in everyday life.

Good Luck!

divide 195 in half your total is 971/2 minutes then add 45 minutes to the 971/2 =1421/2 that is your first days total.
subrtact 45 from 971/2 =521/2 minutes that is your second days time add the two together and u come up with 195 minutes

195 - 45 = 150
150 / 2 = 75
Day 1 = 75 +45 = 120
Day 2 = 75

let t be the time he worked on second day
then t+45 was the time he worked on first day
t +t+45=195
2t=195-45
t=150/2=75 min

n = number of minutes on the first day
n+45 = number of minutes on the second day

n + n + 45 = 195
2n = 150
n = 75

75 minutes 1st day
120 minutes 2nd day
