is accutane a good medication for acne?

If you have tried everything else, my daughter was on accutane,twice I think the second time it worked.
It is not a drug to take lightly, and I think once you start it you have to do it for the duration of time, I remember my daughter having to go on birth control pills before the Dr would prescribe it, also, as the other lady stated on here it is drying, very drying, my daugthers lips would bleed and so would her nose, she was forever putting lip balm on her lips, one last thing, if you have any depression at all, I would advise against it.
I know that this drug was examined by congress a few years back, because of its side effects.
I am not trying to scare you, but I think it helps to be educated on the drug, and it is a good drug, its too bad it carries so many side effects.

Uh yeah it is the MOST powerful medicines available to treat acne. But this is for severe cases only! Ask a dermatologist if it is right for you! Well obviously, 'cause you can only get it from a prescription! It actually shrinks your oil glands, causing you to produce hardly any oil, so acne can't occur at all! But be careful because it really dries your skin. It also dries your lips, too!! And be aware of the side affects, because it can cause serious birth defects and other complications. In fact, they make all women taking Accutane go on the pill. I hope this helps!

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

Yes! It works! The doctor will probably monitor you closely though to make sure you don't have any side effects. One of the biggest side effects I noticed was my skin drying out excessively. Also, females absolutely can NOT get pregnant while taking the medication. If you have tried everything and nothing has worked...Accutane probably will!

Too risky as far as liver, birth defects. Wouldn't be surprised to see its use greatly curtailed after the latest findings.
