Very sorry to hear about your Father, I can only imagine how much stress and worry you must have.
I am thinking since you have hospice care there should be a hospice team that can best answer this question. The reality is with hospice care they are intending to keep him home without pain and as comfortable as possible. They may not be giving him additional fluids do to the potential complications. Talk to them about your concerns. If he does not have a team, call your Dr. and ask him to make a referral as they can provide some day to day supports, both medically and emotionally.

Don't play around and guess what he needs. I'm an R.N. and I am in hospice care for cancer. Tell his RN or call the agency and tell them your concerns. Ensure can make your blood sugars fly off the roof. You don't need that kind of stress. How would you feel if you found out that you did the WRONG thing, and caused him more pain? Also, his lungs can fill up with fluid.

Either of the 2 products you mentioned for children will work for the elderly as well, or in the same isle in the pharmacy you will find other products that are specific for adults.

I don't know how bad your father is, but maybe consider having him put on a sugar water drip or saline drip .. I take it he is diabetic. These are options you need to converse with your doctor about. I sure hope all goes well.. Bless his heart!

You can use the pediasure or pedialight for adults too. You can also just use gatorade, which is what I would do in your situation. All of these are good oral rehydration drinks.
