ok it is indeed possible to prevent ivy from attaching to the wall by putting a 1/2 inch layer of grease or similar jelly on every inch of the walls surface...them vines cant attach to that!

Maintain a little pathway between the ivy & the wall. Weedwack the ivy bed periodically to keep it trimmed back away from your pathway.

Only thing I can think of is to snip the ivy where it starts up the wall. If you use chemicals....you'll probably end up killing the whole plant.

Its pretty hard to kill ivy. You can cut it back pretty far and it will grow again.

I agree, the only answer that I can see is to keep it pruned.
