I had a pony for a couple of years. I enjoyed riding her bareback but since she loved to gallop I usually used the saddle. She sometimes was too stubborn to stop so the only way I could do it was to start getting off by shifting my weight to one stirrup. The last time I rode her bareback was the time she ran under a branch and knocked me off.

I grew up staying with my grandfather on weekends and he had workhorses. He never owned a saddle for any of them. They were to be used in the fields not ridden. Of course my sister and I only saw horses to ride so we would sneak off with them and ride them barebacked. What fun. I've never been in a saddle but I have ridden a horse.

Bareback is fun, especially on a horse with smooth gaits.

NO and no. But once the guy didn;t tighten the saddle enough and right off the side I went. I was okay though. the guy blamed it on the horse inhaling so when it exhaled the saddle would be looser.
